Juvéderm® Voluma XC

Juvederm_VolumaXC_logoJuvéderm® Voluma XC is an injectable gel that contains hyaluronic acid and is the first and only filler that is FDA-approved to instantly add volume to the cheek area. It gives you a subtle lift, recontouring the cheeks for a more youthful-looking profile.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring, hydrating substance found in your skin. As we age, we start to lose HA, and this phenomenon causes our skin to lose structure and volume. Voluma not only restores the volume, but also provides more of an underlying structure to the skin.

One of the advantages of Voluma is that it can last up to two years – longer than most dermal fillers – and you can see results immediately after your injections.

At the Center for Facial and Body Rejuvenation, Juvéderm® Voluma XC injections are administered personally by our board-certified facial plastic surgeons who were selected as National Allergan Trainers. Both of our doctors are National Allergan Trainers, chosen by the company to instruct new providers on proper Juvéderm® Voluma XC injection techniques for the best results.

With their training and knowledge of Juvéderm® Voluma XC and facial anatomy, they can evaluate your face to determine the best positioning for your injections, as well as the proper dosage. This ensures that you will receive natural-looking results.

For wrinkles caused by muscle activity, such as frown lines and crow’s feet, Botox® injections work best. After we examine you, we will be able to advise you which injectable will provide you with the look you want. Sometimes, a combination of dermal fillers and Botox® is recommended.

Be sure to ask us about the Brilliant Distinctions Patient Loyalty Program. You will earn points toward rebates on future treatments every time you have a Botox®, Juvéderm®, Juvéderm® Voluma XC, or Latisse® treatment in our office!

Your Juvéderm® Voluma XC Treatment

We will ask you to avoid aspirin and blood thinners for about a week before your injections. We administer Juvéderm® Voluma XC using a very small needle, so it is not a painful treatment. Lidocaine is included in the formula to numb the injection areas, but we can also apply a topical anesthetic to further numb the sites of the injections.

The injections themselves usually take no more than 30 to 45 minutes. Juvéderm® Voluma XC’s gel formula glides easily into the skin. Afterward, we may apply an ice pack to the area for a few minutes, but you can go home immediately.

If you are trying Juvéderm® Voluma XC for the first time, you might want to start with a small amount and add more in a second treatment, if you like. Since the product lasts a long time, you want to make sure that you do not end up with more fullness than you want. This also allows for the improvement to be more gradual so that others are less likely to notice that you have had a cosmetic treatment.

Recovering from Juvéderm® Voluma XC Injections

Juvéderm® Voluma XC injections require no downtime, but we advise that you avoid exercise for a couple of days.

Common side effects include temporary bruising, swelling, tenderness, redness, itching, and firmness. These symptoms usually only last a few days to a week. We can provide oral and topical products that will help to resolve bruising more quickly. In the meantime, you can use makeup to cover any discoloration, and please use sunblock when outdoors.

Juvéderm® Voluma XC sometimes causes temporary lumps or bumps under the skin. These are not visible and will go away in time. We will give you instructions for massaging these areas to alleviate them faster.
