Sculptra®

Sculptra_Aesthetic_IPLA_L_US_RGBSculptra® Aesthetic® is the first facial injectable that gives you subtle results over time. It gradually replaces lost collagen, so the results are very natural-looking. While you do not receive immediate results with Sculptra®, the gradual collagen neogenesis process makes it virtually impossible for anyone to detect that you have had a cosmetic procedure.

The treatments are done over a few months – usually in three treatments – and can last for more than two years.

Unlike other dermal fillers, Sculptra® Aesthetic is used more as a foundation-building, anti-aging facial injectable to stimulate regeneration of your own collagen primarily on the perimeter of the face. Other dermal fillers add volume to interior features of the face (cheeks, lips, under the eyes, nasolabial folds, etc.) to further enhance features and improve facial wrinkles, folds, and volume loss. Used in conjunction, we have endless options to turn back the clock and give you the most youthful, refined, and natural looking results.

Sculptra® Aesthetic is made of a synthetic substance called poly-L-lactic acid that is biodegradable and has been used for decades in dissolvable stitches. It is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body as it works to replace lost collagen. It is also FDA-approved and biocompatible, so it does not require allergy testing.

At the Center for Facial and Body Rejuvenation, Sculptra® injections are administered by our board-certified facial plastic surgeons. With their training and knowledge of facial anatomy, they can evaluate your face to determine the best positioning for your injections, as well as the proper dosage. This ensures that you will receive natural-looking results.

For wrinkles caused by muscle activity, such as frown lines and crow’s feet, Botox® treatments work best. After we examine you, we will be able to advise you which injectable product will provide you with the look you desire.

Your Sculptra® Treatment

We will ask you to avoid aspirin and blood thinners for about a week before your injections to minimize post-procedure bruising. We administer Sculptra® using a very small needle, so it is not a painful treatment. Lidocaine is included in the formula to numb the injection sites, but we can also apply a topical anesthetic to further numb the treated areas. Sculptra® is injected a bit deeper into the skin than most dermal fillers.

The injections themselves usually take no more than 15-30 minutes. Afterward, we may apply an ice pack to the area for a few minutes, but you can go home immediately. Be patient, as your results will show up gradually over a period of months.

Recovering from Sculptra® Injections

Sculptra® injections do not require downtime, but we advise that you avoid exercise for a couple of days.

Common side effects include temporary bruising, swelling, tenderness, and itching. These symptoms usually only last a few days to a week. We can provide oral and topical products that will help to resolve bruising more quickly. In the meantime, you can use makeup to cover any discoloration, and please use sunblock when outdoors.

Sculptra® may also cause lumps under the skin for a short time. These are to be expected and will go away with massage. We will instruct you the proper way to massage the lumps on a daily basis for five days after each of your Sculptra® treatments.
