Our office was chosen as one of only a few medical practices in the Bay Area to participate in a trial of the injectable dermal filler, Juvéderm® XC prior to its introduction. Today, this product has been used in more than 65 countries for more than a decade. Juvéderm® adds volume and fills lines and wrinkles by using high concentrations of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance already present in the body.
Juvéderm® XC was the first hyaluronic acid filler in a gel formulation, which causes less inflammation and results in a smoother and longer-lasting outcome. The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm® is non-animal sourced, and it does not require an allergy test.
At the Center for Facial and Body Rejuvenation, Juvéderm® XC injections are administered personally by our board-certified facial plastic surgeons who were selected as National Allergan Trainers. With their training and knowledge of facial anatomy, they can evaluate your face to determine the best positioning for your injections, as well as the proper dosage. This ensures that you will receive natural-looking results.
Juvéderm® XC and other dermal fillers work on lines, wrinkles, and folds that are a result of lost volume in the face and neck. Juvéderm® is most effective on moderate to severe wrinkles such as:
- Nasolabial folds that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth
- Marionette lines that run from the corners of the mouth to the chin
- Fine lines above the upper lip and at the corners of the mouth
Juvéderm® XC can also be used for lip augmentation. If you would like your lips to be fuller, this product may be for you.
For wrinkles caused by muscle activity, such as frown lines and crow’s feet, Botox® injections work best. After we examine you, we will be able to advise you which injectable product will provide you with the look you want. Sometimes, a combination of dermal fillers and Botox® is recommended.
Be sure to ask us about the Allergan Brilliant Distinctions Patient Loyalty Program. You will earn points toward rebates on future treatments every time you have a Botox®, Juvéderm® XC, Voluma XC, or Kybella® treatment or purchase Latisse® in our office!

Your Juvéderm® Treatment
We will ask you to avoid aspirin and blood thinners for about a week before your injections. We administer Juvéderm® XC using a very small needle, so it is not a painful treatment. A topical anesthetic can be applied to numb the site of your injections, and the formula includes Lidocaine to further numb the skin and make the treatment more comfortable.
The injections themselves usually take no more than 30 to 45 minutes, as Juvéderm® XC’s gel formula glides easily into the skin. Afterward, we may apply an ice pack to the area for a few minutes, but you can go home immediately.
You will see immediate results following your treatment. After two weeks, you will decide if you want more of a correction, in which case you can have another round of Juvéderm® XC injections. For most people, Juvéderm® XC lasts about six to nine months, but some patients have had it last as long as 18 months, especially after two sessions.
Recovering from Juvéderm® Injections
Juvéderm® XC injections require no downtime, but we advise that you avoid exercise for a couple of days.
You might have some minor bruising, swelling, tenderness, and itching where the needle was inserted. These symptoms usually only last a few days to a week. You can use makeup to cover any bruising, and please use sunblock when outdoors.
