What Is Beard Restoration?

Restoring hair to the goatee, mustache, sideburns, or beard can be done with a facial hair transplant procedure. Beard restoration restores hair to areas where facial growth is thin or not there at all. Hair restoration can also be used to cover acne scars or other facial scars.

How Does a Beard Restoration Work?

Approximately 2,000 hairs will be extracted and replanted into your beard, one at a time with FUE (follicular unit extraction) technique. Your doctor will make tiny incisions in the beard and determine the direction and density of the hair that will grow.

The procedure requires several hours to complete. Oral sedation, and well as local anesthesia can help you feel more relaxed and comfortable during your procedure.

FAQ Beard Restoration

Can I return to work following my beard restoration procedure?

After your hair transplant in our private Saratoga clinic, you should plan on taking a few days off for recovery. Most patients return to work within a week. It just depends on how many grafts are needed. Once the swelling subsides, you can return to all of your regular activities.

Where does the hair come from for my beard restoration?

The transplanted hair will most likely come from your scalp. The back of your head is typically the fullest and is where the hair will be harvested for your beard restoration.

How long will it take for my beard to grow after the transplant?

For most men, you will begin to see some growth around three to four months after your procedure.

Is beard restoration painful?

Beard restoration is very similar to any scalp hair restoration procedure. It is not particularly painful or difficult to experience, particularly when under the care of Cheng Plastic Surgery.

How many grafts will I need?

Every patient’s needs are different. Dr. Elbert or Dr. Jacqueline will meet with you to discuss your goals. The number of grafts you will need for your hair transplant will depend on the level of thinning, the quality of your donor sites, and the amount of existing hair you have.

Why Am I Losing My Hair?

Hair loss can be caused by many factors:

  • Genetics
  • Medications
  • Certain deficiencies in your body
  • Lifestyle
  • Alopecia
  • Thyroid condition
