It takes time to grow a beard, and for some men, it can be a challenge to grow a thick, full beard. Modern hair restoration technology makes it possible to create a thicker, fuller beard, fill in gaps, hide scars, or create sideburns or a thicker mustache with your own natural, growing hair. Cheng Hair Restoration provides you with expertise of double board certified facial plastic surgeons – Dr. Elbert and Dr. Jacqueline Cheng for all of your hair rejuvenation needs.
What is beard restoration?
Restoring hair to the goatee, mustache, sideburns, or beard can be done with a facial hair transplant procedure. Beard restoration restores hair to areas where facial growth is thin or not there at all. Hair restoration can also be used to cover acne scars or other facial scars.
How does a beard restoration work?
Approximately 2,000 hairs will be extracted and replanted into your beard, one at a time with FUE (follicular unit extraction) technique. Your doctor will make tiny incisions in the beard and determine the direction and density of the hair that will grow.
The procedure requires several hours to complete. Oral sedation, and well as local anesthesia can help you feel more relaxed and comfortable during your procedure.

Can I return to work following my beard restoration procedure?
After your hair transplant in our private Saratoga clinic, you should plan on taking a few days off for recovery. Most patients return to work within a week. It just depends on how many grafts are needed. Once the swelling subsides, you can return to all of your regular activities.
Where does the hair come from for my beard restoration?
The transplanted hair will most likely come from your scalp. The back of your head is typically the fullest and is where the hair will be harvested for your beard restoration.
How long will it take for my beard to grow after the transplant?
For most men, you will begin to see some growth around three to four months after your procedure.
Is beard restoration painful?
Beard restoration is very similar to any scalp hair restoration procedure. It is not particularly painful or difficult to experience, particularly when under the care of Cheng Plastic Surgery.
It’s been a long 9 weeks and we cannot wait to see all of our loyal and supportive patients back in our
office! We are currently working with a more limited schedule than before, so please be patient as we
navigate through this, together.
There are a few key changes we’ve made to our appointment protocol to ensure we are maintaining social
distancing and following strict COVID-19 health and safety protocols - for you AND for us.
Call from your car once you’ve arrived at the office for your appointment. A staff member will come out
to greet you, take your temperature and conduct a short COVID-19 health screening to make sure you are
good health prior to entering the building. Our doors will remain locked during normal business hours to
ensure only those who have been screened can enter.
Please arrive at your appointment wearing a mask or protective face covering. We will not be able to
bring you inside the office without one.
We will then bring you inside, offer you hand sanitizer and bring you straight back into your
room. We will at no point have any patients waiting in the lobby!
You will be greeted by Dr. Elbert or Dr. Jacqueline wearing their Personal Protective Equipment deemed
necessary by your specific treatment. (N95 mask, gloves, face shield or protective eyewear, etc.) We ask
that you leave your mask on during the procedure, and only take it off if necessary to complete the
All necessary transactions will be done in the room your treatment is being performed. This will avoid
unnecessary back ups in the lobby.
You will then be walked out through the back door of the office. This is the best way to keep all staff
and patients socially distanced while maintaining one steady flow of traffic throughout the building.
And of course, all rooms will be heavily disinfected immediately after you leave just as we have always done
prior to the pandemic. We will place a major focus on high-contact areas such as chairs, doorknobs, counter
tops, mirrors and more.
