Laser Vein Removal is a non-surgical way to remove spider veins on the face, known as facial telangiectasias. At Cheng Plastic Surgery, our board-certified facial plastic surgeons use the Iridex Diolite laser on spider veins. It has a wavelength that safely targets the hemoglobin in red blood cells, which results in occlusion of the blood vessel, causing the vein to disappear. Removing these veins will not interfere with the normal flow of blood in the body.

The Iridex Diolite laser can also be used to treat other small vascular lesions such as cherry hemangiomas that appear on the skin as red dots.

The result is a more even skin tone with less redness. The laser targets only the pigmented cells in the veins and does not damage the surface of the skin. Most patients require a few treatments to clear as many spider veins as possible.

While the veins that have been removed by the laser will not come back, new spider veins can form. The best way to prevent a recurrence is to always wear sunblock when outdoors and take excellent care of your skin.

Your Laser Vein Removal Procedure

We can apply a topical anesthetic to your skin before your treatment, but the laser only feels like a rubber band snap against the skin. A cooling spray is applied since the laser administers heat. We then pass the handheld laser device over the areas of the face where spider veins appear. Both you and the doctor will wear protective eyewear.

You will not see results right away. Improvement is gradual for a period of weeks after your treatment. You should wait four to six weeks in between appointments, and most people need about four treatments.
