Fraxel® Laser Resurfacing is a non-surgical procedure that resurfaces skin texture, reduces lines and wrinkles, and evens out skin tone. Similar to the pixels in a digital photo, the Fraxel laser delivers a million microscopic points of light in each session. In this way, it does not peel off the top layers of skin like so many procedures. Instead, it fractionally targets only damaged skin cells, leaving the surrounding skin intact.
As a result, there are fewer after-effects and a shorter recovery time than after many skin resurfacing methods. Fraxel also reaches deeper layers of the skin than many lasers, so it kickstarts your natural collagen production.
Fraxel can improve:
- Dark spots / melasma
- Actinic keratosis
- Scars, including acne scars
- Sun damage
- Fine surface lines and wrinkles
- Dull, rough skin
- Enlarged pores
At Cheng Plastic Surgery, our board-certified facial plastic surgeons approach every procedure individually. We spend time with you to understand what you wish to correct, and we examine you carefully to determine the best plan to achieve your goals.
Your Fraxel Skin Resurfacing Procedure
Before your treatment, we apply a topical anesthetic, which takes 90 minutes to take full effect. The Fraxel laser device is then passed over the areas to be treated. You will feel a mild sting, but most patients say that it is well-tolerated.
Recovering from Fraxel Skin Resurfacing
One of the advantages of Fraxel treatment is that most patients can return to work within three to four days. You may have some slight redness and puffiness, however. The redness is similar to a wind burn or slight sunburn.
These symptoms usually go away quickly, and you can apply makeup right away. Men can shave right away.
We will give you instructions for taking care of your skin after your Fraxel treatments. It is especially important to wear sunscreen when outdoors because your skin will be even more vulnerable to the sun than usual.
Within a few days, your skin will be softer, smoother, and more even in skin tone. Most patients need 3-5 procedures to resolve the issues being treated. This is especially true of hyperpigmentation and scars. The results of Fraxel treatments last for about six months.
