Juvéderm® Volbella is a relatively recent addition to the Juvéderm® line, with the ability to reverse signs of aging in some of the most sensitive, delicate areas of the face to date. This formulation is specifically designed to soften perioral lines, those fine vertical lines that appear above the upper lip. Volbella can also add subtle volume to the lips, refreshing your mouth without making it obvious that you had a cosmetic treatment.

What is Volbella?

Like other Juvéderm® products, Volbella contains hyaluronic acid, a synthetic version of the natural sugar found in the body. Hyaluronic acid is essential to maintaining hydration in the dermal layers, which gives skin its soft, supple appearance. The synthetic version is biocompatible, which means you don’t have to undergo any allergy testing before your injections. Volbella is considered a second-generation dermal filler because it features Allergan’s proprietary VYCROSS® technology.

A combination of molecular weights in the hyaluronic acid particles is used to create a smoother consistency within the dermal filler and a more natural result for the patient. VYCROSS® technology also promises results that last longer than first-generation dermal fillers, with Volbella offering a more youthful appearance for up to 12 months.

What does it treat?

Volbella is used to add natural volume to the lips, while the hyaluronic acid in the mix creates a softer look and feel. In addition, Volbella is smooth enough to diminish the appearance of perioral lines, also known as lipstick lines. Until Volbella was introduced, it was difficult to find a dermal filler that could produce the subtle results patients were looking for in this area. This product may also be used to address issues underneath the eyes, such as fine lines and dark circles.

Your Volbella Treatment

We will recommend you stop taking aspirin and blood thinning medications for one week prior to your treatment because these substances can increase your risk of bruising after your procedure.

We inject the formulation using a very fine needle, minimizing your discomfort and creating positive results. The solution also contains lidocaine, a numbing medicine that prevents discomfort as the liquid is administered to the underlying dermal layers. Some patients also request a topical numbing cream before treatment, since this product is used on a relatively sensitive area of the face.

We will be able to complete your Volbella injections in about 30 minutes in our office. After your treatment, we will likely apply ice to the area to reduce swelling and discomfort. At that point, you will be able to return to your routine right away.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Friday, March 20, 2020:

Even with social distancing, we're still here for you.

During this difficult time, we will continue to try and be there for all of you in any capacity we can. To protect ourselves, our staff, our community and of course, you, we will still continue to refrain from seeing patients in the office (unless urgent or emergent) until the Shelter-in-Place Ordinance has been lifted. But this doesn't mean all communication stops!⁣

As social distancing, self-isolation and shelter-in-place are extremely important during this time, so is trying our best to still keep a sense of "normalcy" within our daily routines. Communication is a fundamental component of everyday life and something we strongly believe is key to alleviating stress, anxiety and even depression. If we can be a pillar of relief, happiness or normality in the not-so-normal climate we are experiencing - we've done our job not only as your physician, but as your friend.

If you are interested in simply just chatting, advice on the current health crisis, a follow up to a treatment or planning for a future procedure, both Dr. Elbert and Dr. Jacqueline will be doing Virtual FaceTime Appointments starting Monday, March 23rd! They will be available Monday - Friday from 9 AM PST - 12 PM PST.

Please email us at [email protected] with a date and time that works best and we will be sure to reach out in a quick and efficient manner. If you would prefer to call the office and leave us a message at (408) 255-3223, a staff member will reach out as soon as possible.

During this time, we also feel it is extremely important to take care of YOU!

Reading your favorite book, doing at-home yoga and putting on your favorite face mask or serum is not only physically beneficial, but mentally as well.

To contribute to your self-care routine, we will be offering phone orders for SkinCeuticals products with20% off your total AND free shipping!

What do you have to do? Call the office Monday - Friday between 9 AM PST - 12 PM PST and let us know which products you'd like, we will process your payment over the phone and the products will be shipped directly to your door! If you would prefer curbside-pickup style, we are more than happy to accommodate that as well! (Keeping our 6-foot social distance, of course.)

"It is how we embrace uncertainty in our lives that leads to the great transformations of our souls." - Brandon A. Trean

We will all get through this, together!

Monday, March 16, 2020:

Even with social distancing, we're still here for you.

As the current situation with COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, we are continuing to make decisions regarding our practice to keep ourselves and our community healthy. As the future of this virus is uncertain, it is mandated by Santa Clara County Public Health Department Officials that all non-essential businesses close their doors and shelter in place.

Because of this region-wide order, our office will be closed as of Tuesday, March 17th, 2020 and will be rescheduling all non-emergent treatments, follow up appointments and surgeries after Tuesday, April 7th, 2020.⁣ All future in-office events for March and April have been postponed until further notice.

To those patients that need to be seen urgently for post-operative or emergent appointments - please call our office phone number. Your call will be forwarded to an employee that can best help you as we will still have remote access to our schedule. They will make the necessary arrangements to ensure you receive the proper care. ⁣

We are confident that we will make it through this and become a stronger and smarter community because of it. Yes, most people do not die from COVID-19 and many can be asymptomatic - but the sooner we isolate from one another, the sooner we can make sure those statistics do not change.⁣

As physicians, we hold health to the utmost importance so we please ask those of you who can - work from home when possible, do not go to restaurants or bars, limit your public exposure and be cognizant of those who are sick, elderly or immunocompromised. In this time, we have to not only think of ourselves, but think of those that can be directly affected and do all we can for the sake of our community, our state, and our country.⁣

We do not believe this is a time to panic - but rather the opposite. It is time to be rational and act with extreme purpose. By preventatively closing our doors for the next 3 weeks - we may be helping change the course of a potentially life-changing event in history.⁣

We look forward to a future of health and happiness with you at Cheng Plastic Surgery!⁣

Caring and cautious regards,⁣
