A variety of factors can contribute to facial lines as we age. This can include cellular changes, free radicals that damage the skin, repeated muscle contractions and an overall loss of collagen. Our San Jose BOTOX® treatment is popular for a good reason – it’s fast, effective, and requires no recovery time. This anti-aging treatment smooths wrinkles that are caused by muscle activity such as frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet.

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is made of Botulinum toxin, which is a purified protein/neurotoxin produced by the bacterium clostridium botulinum. Although the word “toxin” is in the name, there is no reason to be alarmed. BOTOX® is a purified protein that has been used medically for more than 20 years to smooth facial lines and creases, along with treating medical conditions, even in children.

How much does BOTOX® cost?

The cost of your BOTOX® treatment will depend on several factors, including your cosmetic goals and the number of units of the product needed to achieve the look you envision. The average cost of treatment is $550, but it may be less or more.

What are the benefits of BOTOX® injections?

BOTOX® injections relax targeted muscles in your face and provide a double-action benefit to your skin and facial features:

  • Reduce wrinkles, fine lines, creases, and other signs of aging: BOTOX® is the “gold standard” injectable for at reducing the appearance of the “11s” that appear between your brows, smoothing crow’s feet, and horizontal forehead creases.
  • Prevent wrinkles from becoming etched into your skin: Wrinkles and creases become etched in due to constant facial expression, getting worse as the skin loses elasticity with age. Starting BOTOX® injections early can help prevent those creases from developing.

BOTOX® can also be used to treat various other facial problems, including uncontrollable eye twitching, clenched jaw, and migraines.

Am I a Candidate For BOTOX® in San Jose?

You may be a good candidate for BOTOX® in San Jose if you are physically healthy and desire an improvement in the following facial concerns:

Forehead lines: Horizontal lines across the forehead which are the result of raising the eyebrows.

Drooping brows: Our brows can droop with age this can give us an angry or tired look, or eyes that appear hooded.

Frown lines: The lines that develop between the eyebrows or the “11” lines which develop from furrowing the brow.

Crow’s feet: The fine lines that develop in the corners of our eyes due to the loss of collagen in our skin.

Drooping mouth: The corners of our mouths begin to turn down as we age causing a sad, upset appearance.

Neck bands: Vertical necks bands on the neck can leave you looking less attractive and youthful.

BOTOX® does not work on every type of wrinkle. For signs of aging caused by loss of volume in the face and neck, we recommend dermal fillers such as Juvéderm® XC, Juvéderm® Voluma XC, Restylane®, and Sculptra®. For very fine lines on the surface of the skin, you will achieve the best results from skin resurfacing procedures. If you have pronounced wrinkles on the face, a surgical procedure might provide you with the results you desire.

During your consultation, we will discuss all of your treatment options and any pertinent medical history to discover which treatment is right for you. The good news is that if you do decide on more than one procedure, we are a one-stop shop for taking care of virtually every cosmetic issue.

What Should I Expect From My BOTOX® Treatment?

We administer BOTOX® using a very fine needle, so for most, there is little to no discomfort. If desired, a topical anesthetic can be applied to numb the site of your injections to make the procedure even more comfortable.

The injections themselves usually take no more than 15 minutes. Afterward, we may apply an ice pack to the area for a few minutes to help with any minimal pain swelling or redness.

Be sure to ask us about the Brilliant Distinctions Patient Loyalty Program. You will earn points toward rebates on future treatments every time you have a BOTOX®, Juvéderm®, Voluma, Vollure, Volbella or Kybella® treatment or purchase Latisse® in our office.

Recovering from BOTOX® Injections

One of the reasons people love BOTOX® is that they can go right back to work or elsewhere immediately after their treatment. You won’t see instantaneous results, but the effects will begin to arrive in three days to a week. You will see your full results two weeks after your treatment. We always schedule a follow-up visit with Dr. Cheng at that time to assess your results.

A few patients have a mild reaction to our Palo Alto BOTOX® injections that involves a slight bruise where the needle was inserted and a bit of tenderness. Makeup can cover any discoloration, and the soreness usually only lasts 24 to 48 hours.

FAQ

How long will my BOTOX® results last?

The effects of BOTOX® can last three to four months, it is advised that you repeat the injections periodically in order to maintain your results. Many of our patients consider BOTOX® to be a vital part of their regular beauty regimen.

Will my results look unnatural?

One of the misconceptions about BOTOX® is that it causes your face to look frozen. In the hands of our skilled board-certified facial plastic surgeons, your wrinkles will be reduced without affecting your ability to appear refreshed and natural, never frozen.

Is BOTOX® only for women?

BOTOX® is an excellent option for both men and women to reduce and delay the signs of aging. Men are not immune to the effects of aging, and the need to be competitive in today’s job market combined with a desire to maintain a more youthful look has made BOTOX® increasingly popular with today’s men.

Are there any risks or side effects?

BOTOX® is known for being a safe and effective treatment, but there is a low possibility of temporary side-effects, including:

  • Pain, swelling, or bruising
  • Headache
  • Flu-like symptoms

The side-effects should fade within a few days of treatment. Some rare side effects could occur when BOTOX® is injected around the eyes or mouth, such as drooping eyelids. The skills of your injector are a critical point when undergoing BOTOX injections. For a beautiful, smooth, natural result, your BOTOX treatment should be under the care of a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Friday, March 20, 2020:

Even with social distancing, we're still here for you.

During this difficult time, we will continue to try and be there for all of you in any capacity we can. To protect ourselves, our staff, our community and of course, you, we will still continue to refrain from seeing patients in the office (unless urgent or emergent) until the Shelter-in-Place Ordinance has been lifted. But this doesn't mean all communication stops!⁣

As social distancing, self-isolation and shelter-in-place are extremely important during this time, so is trying our best to still keep a sense of "normalcy" within our daily routines. Communication is a fundamental component of everyday life and something we strongly believe is key to alleviating stress, anxiety and even depression. If we can be a pillar of relief, happiness or normality in the not-so-normal climate we are experiencing - we've done our job not only as your physician, but as your friend.

If you are interested in simply just chatting, advice on the current health crisis, a follow up to a treatment or planning for a future procedure, both Dr. Elbert and Dr. Jacqueline will be doing Virtual FaceTime Appointments starting Monday, March 23rd! They will be available Monday - Friday from 9 AM PST - 12 PM PST.

Please email us at [email protected] with a date and time that works best and we will be sure to reach out in a quick and efficient manner. If you would prefer to call the office and leave us a message at (408) 255-3223, a staff member will reach out as soon as possible.

During this time, we also feel it is extremely important to take care of YOU!

Reading your favorite book, doing at-home yoga and putting on your favorite face mask or serum is not only physically beneficial, but mentally as well.

To contribute to your self-care routine, we will be offering phone orders for SkinCeuticals products with20% off your total AND free shipping!

What do you have to do? Call the office Monday - Friday between 9 AM PST - 12 PM PST and let us know which products you'd like, we will process your payment over the phone and the products will be shipped directly to your door! If you would prefer curbside-pickup style, we are more than happy to accommodate that as well! (Keeping our 6-foot social distance, of course.)

"It is how we embrace uncertainty in our lives that leads to the great transformations of our souls." - Brandon A. Trean

We will all get through this, together!

Monday, March 16, 2020:

Even with social distancing, we're still here for you.

As the current situation with COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, we are continuing to make decisions regarding our practice to keep ourselves and our community healthy. As the future of this virus is uncertain, it is mandated by Santa Clara County Public Health Department Officials that all non-essential businesses close their doors and shelter in place.

Because of this region-wide order, our office will be closed as of Tuesday, March 17th, 2020 and will be rescheduling all non-emergent treatments, follow up appointments and surgeries after Tuesday, April 7th, 2020.⁣ All future in-office events for March and April have been postponed until further notice.

To those patients that need to be seen urgently for post-operative or emergent appointments - please call our office phone number. Your call will be forwarded to an employee that can best help you as we will still have remote access to our schedule. They will make the necessary arrangements to ensure you receive the proper care. ⁣

We are confident that we will make it through this and become a stronger and smarter community because of it. Yes, most people do not die from COVID-19 and many can be asymptomatic - but the sooner we isolate from one another, the sooner we can make sure those statistics do not change.⁣

As physicians, we hold health to the utmost importance so we please ask those of you who can - work from home when possible, do not go to restaurants or bars, limit your public exposure and be cognizant of those who are sick, elderly or immunocompromised. In this time, we have to not only think of ourselves, but think of those that can be directly affected and do all we can for the sake of our community, our state, and our country.⁣

We do not believe this is a time to panic - but rather the opposite. It is time to be rational and act with extreme purpose. By preventatively closing our doors for the next 3 weeks - we may be helping change the course of a potentially life-changing event in history.⁣

We look forward to a future of health and happiness with you at Cheng Plastic Surgery!⁣
