Botox® Cosmetic is popular for a good reason – it’s fast, effective and requires no recovery time. This anti-aging treatment smooths certain wrinkles that are caused by muscle activity, such as frown lines (the vertical lines between the eyebrows), forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet.
At the Center for Facial and Body Rejuvenation, Botox® injections are administered by our board-certified facial plastic surgeons who were selected as National Allergan Trainers. With their training and knowledge of facial anatomy, they can evaluate your face at rest and when making facial expressions to determine the best positioning for your injections, as well as the proper dosage. This ensures that you will be happy with your results.
One of the misconceptions about Botox® is that it causes your face to look frozen. In the hands of our skilled board-certified facial plastic surgeons, the wrinkles will be reduced without affecting your ability to make facial expressions.
Botox® is made of Botulinum toxin, which is a purified protein/neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. But don’t be alarmed by the use of “toxin” in the name. It is a purified protein that has been used medically for more than 20 years to safely treat muscle spasms, even in children, and it is also used to treat hyperhidrosis (severe sweating).
Botox® does not work on every types of wrinkle. For signs of aging caused by loss of volume in the face and neck, we recommend dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm® XC, Juvéderm® Voluma XC, Restylane®, and Sculptra®. For very fine lines on the surface of the skin, you will achieve the best results from skin resurfacing procedures. If you have pronounced wrinkles on the face, a surgical procedure might give you the look you want.
During your consultation, we will talk about all of your treatment options and which treatment is right for you. The good news is that if you do decide on more than one procedure, we are a one-stop shop for taking care of virtually every cosmetic issue.
Be sure to ask us about the Brilliant Distinctions Patient Loyalty Program. You will earn points toward rebates on future treatments every time you have a Botox®, Juvéderm®, Voluma, or Kybella® treatment or purchase Latisse® in our office.

Your Botox® Treatment
We administer Botox® using a very small needle, so it is not a painful treatment. A topical anesthetic can be applied to numb the site of your injections to make the procedure even more comfortable.
The injections themselves usually take no more than 15 minutes. Afterward, we may apply an ice pack to the area for a few minutes.
Recovering from Botox® Injections
One of the reasons people love Botox® is that they can go right back to work or elsewhere immediately after their treatment. You won’t see immediate results, but the effects will begin in 3 days to a week. You will see your full results 2 weeks after your treatment. We always schedule a follow-up visit with Dr. Cheng at that time to access your results.
A few patients have a mild reaction to Botox® that involves a slight bruise where the needle was inserted and a bit of tenderness. Makeup can cover any discoloration, and the soreness usually only lasts 24-48 hours.
The effects of Botox® last 3-4 months, so you must repeat the injections periodically in order to maintain your results. Many of our patients consider Botox® to be a part of their regular beauty regime.
Also, don’t forget to join the Brilliant Distinctions program to earn rebates and make your Botox® treatment more affordable.
