At Cheng Plastic Surgery, we believe that informed decisions lead to the most rewarding transformations. Below are some of the most commonly asked questions from patients visiting our San Jose and San Mateo offices. If you have a question that isn’t covered here, our team is always happy to help—please don’t hesitate to contact us.

General Practice Questions

Who performs treatments at Cheng Plastic Surgery?

All procedures—surgical and non-surgical—are performed or closely overseen by Dr. Elbert Cheng and Dr. Jacqueline Cheng, both of whom are double board-certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Our medspa treatments are delivered by highly trained clinical staff under their direct supervision.

What’s the difference between plastic surgery and facial plastic surgery?

Facial plastic surgery is a subspecialty that focuses exclusively on procedures of the head, face, and neck. Unlike general plastic surgeons, our doctors have in-depth, advanced training in facial anatomy, providing an elevated level of precision and artistry for treatments like rhinoplasty, facelifts, and eyelid surgery.

Do you offer consultations at both locations?

Yes. We welcome patients at both locations and offer comprehensive in-person consultations. Virtual consultations may also be available upon request, depending on the procedure and your needs.

What makes Cheng Plastic Surgery different?

We offer a rare combination of medical expertise, aesthetic artistry, and personal connection. Our practice is led by a brother-sister team of facial plastic surgeons who approach every case with warmth, precision, and tailored care. From long consults and individualized surgical planning to high-touch post-care, we prioritize results that look and feel naturally yours.

Appointment & Treatment Questions

How do I schedule a consultation?

You can request a consultation by calling our office directly or by filling out the online form. A member of our patient care team will reach out promptly to assist with scheduling and answer any preliminary questions.

Is there a consultation fee?

Yes, a consultation fee is collected at the time of booking and may be applied toward the cost of your procedure or treatment, depending on the service.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

To respect the time of our providers and other patients, we kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for any appointment changes. Cancellations or reschedules with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a forfeited consultation fee.

How long is a typical consultation?

Our consultations typically last between 45 and 60 minutes. This gives us ample time to understand your goals, conduct a thorough evaluation, and walk you through your options with visual tools and honest recommendations.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

We ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows us to offer your time slot to another patient and ensures efficiency for our staff.

Surgical Questions

How soon can I schedule surgery after my consultation?

Surgery dates are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Depending on the procedure and the time of year, availability can range from a few weeks to a couple of months. We’ll work with your schedule as best as possible.

Where are surgeries performed?

We have a fully accredited, in-office surgical suite at our San Jose location equipped to handle all of our surgical procedures.

What type of anesthesia is used?

This depends on the procedure. We offer local anesthesia, IV sedation, and general anesthesia, and your options will be discussed during consultation. Patient safety and comfort are always our top priorities.

Non-Surgical & Medspa Questions

What is the difference between Botox® and fillers?

Botox® relaxes muscles to smooth dynamic wrinkles caused by expression (such as frown lines and crow's feet), while dermal fillers restore volume and structure to areas such as cheeks, lips, and smile lines. They are often combined for full facial rejuvenation.

Do you offer skincare and laser treatments?

Yes. Our Medspa offers a full range of laser resurfacing, skin rejuvenation, chemical peels, microneedling, HydraFacial, and advanced treatments like BBL HEROic, CoolPeel, and PRP therapies.

How do I know which treatment is right for me?

The best place to start is with a personalized consultation. Every treatment plan at Cheng Plastic Surgery is tailored to your anatomy, aesthetic goals, and timeline. We're here to guide you with honesty, expertise, and compassion.

Financial & Payment Questions

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We partner with reputable lenders, offering flexible payment plans for qualifying patients. You can learn more on our Financing page.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, major credit cards, and third-party financing. Payment is due in full prior to treatment, and our staff is happy to provide estimates and help you understand the costs.
