Kybella-R_Injection_Logo_RGB-(1)Kybella® is a revolutionary new product that has been approved by the FDA to improve a double chin. An injectable, Kybella® destroys the excess fat cells that cause “submental fullness.” Once destroyed, the cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

Made of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat, Kybella® has been proven both effective and safe in over 20 studies. Seventy-nine percent of patients treated with Kybella® have reported satisfaction with the appearance of their face and chin. They have said they felt less self-conscious and less overweight.

At the Center for Facial and Body Rejuvenation, our board-certified facial plastic surgeons approach every procedure individually. We have been trained in the use of Kybella® and understand well how it works in the body to reduce the appearance of a double chin.

Note that Kybella® does not remove sagging, excess skin. For mild sagging, Ultherapy or Thermage might be better options for you. For substantial sagging, a facelift may be the only procedure that will provide you with a satisfactory result. If you have neck bands, which are often a result of loosened muscles, you might require a neck lift.

Your Kybella® Procedure

First, we apply an ice pack to the treatment area to numb the skin. Using a fine needle, we begin to inject Kybella® into the area under the chin. The procedure takes less than a half hour.

The results will be visible in about six weeks. At that time, you may decide that you want additional treatment to the area. A subsequent treatment can then be done. Most people receive two or three treatments of Kybella® at six-week intervals, but some patients may need up to six treatments for best results.

Recovering from Kybella® Injections

You can resume all activities, including work, as soon as your injections have been completed. For most patients, downtime is minimal and occurs most commonly after the first treatment session. We can advise you on how to minimize these side effects.

Most patients do have some minor swelling and bruising for about a week. These effects can be covered with makeup, but you will not want to schedule major events or photographs while receiving Kybella® treatment. If you experience any pain, you can take Tylenol or Motrin.

Many patients treated with Kybella® experience visible contouring of their chin profile in two to four treatments. Some people require up to six treatments in order to achieve their desired results. Once your chin profile has improved, you may not need to be treated with Kybella® again.

Kybella® can dramatically improve the appearance of submental fullness and is an excellent option for patients who cannot or do not wish to undergo a surgical procedure. While Kybella® is the newest option for treating submental fullness, in our office, we offer a variety of other options including Precision® laser-assisted liposuction to the chin, traditional submental liposuction, facelift, and neck lift procedures.
