Most types of cells in the body die, according to a “schedule.” These dead cells are then shed by the immune system, and new cells take their place. Unfortunately, fat cells work differently. Once fat cells form, they might shrink during weight loss, but they do not die on their own, nor are they removed from the body.
This is why it is so easy to gain back weight after dieting. The good news is that fat cells do not like the cold and, as most things do, will freeze when they reach a certain temperature. Just as water crystallizes when it is frozen, so will your fat cells but, upon reaching the target temperature, they will die.
